This month Place and Memory artist Donna Coleman was part of ‘Mexico‘s’ last exhibition at their current premises. Her drawing ‘How Are You Feeling On A Scale Of One To Seven?‘ (2013) was part of a really well curated and installed show that displayed all the contributors works in the form of A1 black and white poster reproductions, either wall hung, or on cobalt blue tables and ‘lecterns’.
Donna’s current series of drawing build on the narratives explored in her film Liminal Quiescence (2013), that was part of the Place And Memory group exhibition last year.
We want to feature Donna’s work in our Place And Memory publication, and are currently running a Kickstarter crowd-funding appeal to continue to work with all artists in developing their work for the book which will be launched at the end of May. Will you help? Here is some more information:
Place&Memory is an award winning project run and mentored by artists Emma Bolland and Tom Rodgers, and curator Judit Bodor, with added input from writer, editor and publisher Brian Lewis of Longbarrow press. Since June 2013 we have worked with eight emerging artists and writers in Leeds who have experienced mental health difficulties, enabling them in developing a professional practice, using their personal relationships with the city as a focus for their work. The outcomes so far have been an exhibition and a documentary / artist’s film about the participants, their work, and their relationship to the city.
We now need your help to complete the project, work with the participants until May, and produce an ambitious publication that further explores the psychogeography of Leeds through the work of the participants which will be launched in May. It will be a legacy not just for the participants, but for the ambition of the project, for arts and mental health, for the City of Leeds, and for you as supporters. We launched a Kickstarter funding appeal to this next stage happen, and have until 12th March to reach our target.
